Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 16, 2026
Ember is built with a simple principle: your data is yours. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it's used, and what Ember doesn't do.
What Ember accesses
Ember fetches publicly available fire incident data provided by the State of Victoria, Australia, as well as news and forecasts from the Country Fire Authority (CFA). This data is retrieved directly from public data feeds and displayed in the app. Ember does not send any information back to these services on your behalf.
Ember uses Apple's MapKit to display incidents on an interactive map. MapKit may transmit location-related data to Apple in accordance with Apple's privacy policy.
Ember includes a translation feature powered by Apple's on-device Translation framework. Translations are processed locally on your device and are not sent to any external server.
What stays on your device
Your preferences, settings, and any configuration you make within Ember stay entirely on your device. Ember has no server, no user accounts, and no cloud component of its own.
Data collection
Ember does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically:
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No crash reporting services
- No advertising or ad networks
- No third-party SDKs that collect data
- No cookies, identifiers, or fingerprinting
- No user accounts or sign-in
Third-party data sources
Incident data is provided by the State of Victoria under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia licence. News and forecasts are provided by the Country Fire Authority. Ember retrieves this data directly from public feeds — no intermediary services are involved.
Children's privacy
Because Ember does not collect any data whatsoever, there is no special risk to children's privacy. The app does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes — for example, if Ember adds new features that access additional data — this page will be updated with a new effective date. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
